Partner Visa Success Story – Subclass 820 Onshore Grant
At Rocket & Ash Immigration Law, we love helping couples build their future together in Australia. In this case, we supported a UK passport holder through the full process of securing their Subclass 820 Onshore Partner Visa, resulting in a successful grant after careful preparation and strong relationship evidence.
Client Background
Our client was a United Kingdom passport holder living in Australia with their Australian partner. The couple had established a genuine and committed relationship and were ready to take the next step toward permanent residency through Australia’s partner visa program.
Because the applicant was already in Australia, the correct pathway was the Subclass 820 Partner Visa (Temporary), lodged onshore.
The Visa Pathway
The Subclass 820 Partner Visa is the first stage of Australia’s two-step partner visa process:
- Subclass 820 – Temporary partner visa (onshore)
- Subclass 801 – Permanent partner visa (assessed later)
Once granted, the Subclass 820 allows the applicant to remain in Australia with full work rights, Medicare access, and a pathway to permanent residency.
Key Dates
The partner visa application was lodged on 15 November 2024.
After approximately 15 months of processing, the Subclass 820 visa was successfully granted on 7 February 2026.
Our Approach
Partner visas require much more than simply proving a couple is together — the Department of Home Affairs expects detailed evidence across all aspects of the relationship.
Our team prepared a decision-ready partner visa submission supported by strong evidence of a genuine and continuing relationship. We ensured the application addressed the key partner visa criteria, drafted clear relationship statements, and professionally organised all supporting documents for upload through ImmiAccount.
Because the application was well-prepared from the beginning, the Department was able to finalise the case without unnecessary delays or additional requests.
Outcome
The applicant was successfully granted the Subclass 820 Partner Visa on 7 February 2026, allowing them to:
✅ remain in Australia lawfully
✅ work full-time without restriction
✅ access Medicare
✅ continue their pathway toward the permanent Subclass 801 stage
