Increased Skilled Visa Income Thresholds from 1 July 2025: What You Need to Know

published on 01 April 2025

From 1 July 2025, the Australian Government will increase the income thresholds required for skilled visa nominations by 4.6%, in line with updates to the Annual Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE). These changes aim to ensure that overseas workers are paid fairly and in line with market conditions.

Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT)

The Core Skills Income Threshold will increase from $73,150 to $76,515. This updated threshold will apply to nomination applications for the Core Skills stream of the Subclass 482 Skills in Demand visa and the Subclass 186 Employer Nomination Scheme visa.

Specialist Skills Income Threshold

The Specialist Skills Income Threshold will rise from $135,000 to $141,210. This change affects nomination applications for the Specialist Skills stream of the Subclass 482 Skills in Demand visa.

What This Means for Employers and Visa Applicants

From 1 July 2025, all new nomination applications must meet the new income threshold or the annual market salary rate (AMSR)—whichever is higher. Employers must ensure that proposed salaries comply with these new minimums to avoid delays or refusals.

It’s important to note that these new thresholds will not apply to:

  • Visa applications already lodged before 1 July 2025
  • Existing visa holders

Planning Ahead

If you're an employer planning to sponsor a skilled worker, and the current income thresholds are more manageable for your business, you may wish to submit your nomination application before 1 July 2025.

If you're a visa applicant, speak to your employer about how these changes might affect your application and ensure your salary offer meets the upcoming requirements.
