At Rocket & Ash Immigration Law, we are proud to share another positive result—this time for a client from Nepal, already living in Australia, who was eager to pursue a second master's degree at an Australian university.
We lodged their Student Visa (subclass 500) application under the Higher Education Sector on 10 February 2025, and it was granted on 10 July 2025—just 5 months later, well within the Department’s published processing timeframe.
đź“… Timeline Snapshot
- Application Lodged: 10 February 2025
- Visa Granted: 10 July 2025
- Total Processing Time: 5 months
🧾 Background
Our client had previously completed postgraduate studies in Australia and decided to pursue an additional master’s program to broaden their academic and career prospects. Because the client was already in Australia onshore, the Department assessed their intentions closely—particularly with regard to Genuine Student (GS) requirements.
We took proactive steps to present a strong case, clearly justifying the reasons for a second postgraduate qualification. This included:
- A carefully drafted GS statement outlining the academic progression
- Supporting documents to demonstrate academic merit, financial stability, and compliance history
- A complete, decision-ready application that required no further information requests
⏱ Processing Standards: How Did We Compare?
For the Higher Education Sector, the Department of Home Affairs publishes the following benchmarks:
- 50% of applications are processed within 29 days
- 90% of applications are processed within 6 months
While onshore applications can attract additional scrutiny, our client's visa was granted within 5 months, putting them in the top 90th percentile for efficient approvals—even for a second master's degree, which can sometimes face delays without proper documentation or justification.
âś… Visa Conditions
As expected, the student visa includes the following conditions:
- 8105 – Limited work hours during study periods
- 8202 – Must maintain enrolment in a registered course
- 8501 – Must maintain adequate health insurance
- 8533 – Must notify education provider of any address changes
🛂 Travel rights: The visa permits multiple entries until 22 October 2027.
🎯 What This Case Proves
Even when pursuing a second degree, applicants can still achieve fast and favourable outcomes—if the application is carefully prepared and professionally presented. At Rocket & Ash, we understand how to structure these cases to meet policy expectations while aligning with our clients' goals.
Whether you're applying from Nepal, India, or already living in Australia—our expert team is ready to help you build a strategic application that avoids delays.
